Steam Veil Games is launching Drill Rift in Q4 2025 on Steam, with a demo available from September 20. It’s a single-player, turn-based colony sim where you manage a dwarven mining operation under a mountain. You upgrade machinery, research tech, keep dwarves from losing it, and try not to awaken whatever horrors are lying below.

The game combines base-building with dice-roll mechanics reminiscent of Dungeons & Dragons. Dwarves have stats that affect dice outcomes, so sending the wrong miner to the wrong event can tank a mission. You’ll juggle resource management, machinery upgrades, and the risk of madness that grows as you drill deeper. Some threats exploit rising madness, forcing you to constantly balance progress against survival.

Progress is deliberate. Every upgrade and choice matters because resources are limited. Drill too deep too fast, and a single mistake can snowball into disaster. The mechanics are solid in theory, but the turn-based pace may frustrate players used to faster colony sims, and dice-based outcomes can feel punishing if luck isn’t on your side.

The Steam demo will let players test core systems before release. Drill Rift is clearly aimed at players who like methodical planning, high stakes, and a dark, creeping sense of threat. Casual players or those averse to random failure may struggle.
