General Victory by Score or Victory by Conquest?

If I'm playing an RTS for one hour, I want to see bases destroyed and armies wiped out, not one calculator deciding who wins. That said, score victories can punish those stubborn players that keep hiding units in corners of the map. We've all met those guys one way or the other. I dont want a...

General How do you deal with a player who hides units in the corners of the map?

There was a time I watched a replay where somebody lost the battle twenty minutes earlier but kept hiding around the map. Instead of accepting defeat, they turn the game into hide-and-seek. That's one of my biggest RTS annoyances. At that point, I would stop rushing. Secure the map, scout and...

General Is the High Ground advantage overrated in modern games?

Modern games sometimes treat high ground like a decoration. You climb a hill and nothing really changes. Then developers wonder why maps feel so flat. Back in the day, controlling important terrain actually meant something. You fought for it because it mattered. I miss that tension. Not every...

General Do you prefer projectile physics or guaranteed hits?

Nothing is sweeter than seeing a desperate dodge actually work. It makes battles feel alive. Guaranteed hits can sometimes feel robotic. The annoying part is when your strongest unit misses three times in a row😂. Still, i prefer uncertainty. A little randomness creates memorable moments. If...

General What is the best way to punish a "Greedy" player who expands too fast?

One thing I've learned is that greedy players hate early pressure 😂. The moment somebody starts grabbing half the map too quickly, I'm already suspicious. You know something is happening. The best punishment is making them defend before they're ready. Make them spend resources on survival...

General Should there be a limit on how many units you can select at once?

I watched a tournament replay and something annoyed me. Those unlimited army selections sometimes make battles feel lazy. Back then when limits existed, people actually had to manage different groups properly. That said, some limits were ridiculous. Selecting tiny groups in huge battles was a...

General Is it better for a game to have a high skill ceiling or be easy to learn?

I was checking the Steam reviews this afternoon and noticed people arguing over this. Personally, a game should be easy to join but hard to master. If a new player feels lost after ten minutes, they will uninstall the game very quickly. But if everybody becomes an expert after one weekend, the...

General Should every unit have an active ability, or is that too much clicking?

The players are already managing the economy, scouting and army movement. Now you want them to activate fifteen different abilities too? That is going to be a big stress, not a strategy. The funniest part is that half of those abilities barely matter.

General Why do some games feel "clunky" while others feel "smooth"?

I played a old RTS on my laptop and honestly i almost uninstalled it. The units were moving way too slow. You click once, they respond maybe after several minutes 😂. Meanwhile another game from 15 years ago still feels smooth today. I think responsiveness matters more than graphics. A game can...

General Why do people find RTS games "stressful"?

RTS can genuinely be stressful. You're managing the economy, scouting, defending, attacking and planning all at once. Just a distraction can collapse everything. That's when I understood why some people don't like that genre. Compare that to games where you can relax and move at your own pace...

General Should there be more "Co-op" campaigns in strategy games?

Some of my best gaming memories came from teaming up with friends, not from sweating against strangers online. Everybody talks about competition now, but coop creates better stories.

General What’s the best "Indie" RTS game you’ve played?

Indie developers deserve their flowers. For me, Northgard really surprised me. I expected another small project and ended up sinking plenty of hours into it. What I like is that indie teams still take risks. Big studios often play safe because they're protecting huge budgets.

General Do you listen to podcasts about strategy games?

I didn't think I'd enjoy them either until I got stuck in tedious chores. 😂The best ones feel like friends arguing over a game. The bad ones sound like lecturers. So, sometimes the hosts talk with so much confidence you'd think they personally created the game.

General Which RTS game has the best community?

I'd give it to Age of Empires players. My experience with them has been surprisingly interesting. You ask a beginner question and people actually explain instead of roasting you alive. 😂That's rare online these days.

General Is the RTS genre "dying" or just evolving?

People have been announcing RTS death longer than we think. The genre is not dead. It's just no longer the king of gaming. people moved to different styles, mobile games, survival games and all that. The audience is still there.

General What’s the first thing you look for in a game trailer?

The sound design catches my attention first. People underrate it. A tank firing should sound powerful, not sound like somebody dropping a spoon in the kitchen. 😂. I remember downloading one RTS years ago mainly because the weapons sounded amazing in the trailer. Funny enough, the game itself...

General What’s the first thing you look for in a game trailer?

It's the gameplay. Everything else is secondary. I've been burnt too many times by fancy trailers. One game looked like a blockbuster movie, then the actual gameplay felt too boring.

General Do you prefer "Grand Strategy" or "Classic RTS"?

Those grand strategy games feel like a second job sometimes. You open one menu and another ten menus appear. You don't even know when you would accidentally click the wrong thing.

General Is "Automated Scouting" a good feature for beginners?

I think automated scouting is fine at the beginning but players shouldn't depend on it forever. That's like using calculator for every simple maths question you come across. It helps you learn, but eventually you need to understand what's happening yourself.

General What is the ONE RTS game you could play forever?

Mine has to be Red Alert 2. That game aged well. I still remember spending my entire weekends on it. The factions had character, the music was ok, and every games was Awesome.
